Chemoexfoliation is a procedure which involves the application of alpha hydroxy- and beta hydroxy acids to the skin, to aid in the coagulation, exfoliation and re-epithelialization of the super facial layers of the skin. This improves the appearance of pigmented, aging and photodamaged skin. Chemical peels can also be used in the treatment of acne and superficial scarring. Superficial to medium depth peels like glycolic acids, lactic acid, salicylic acid, kojic acid, TCA (15-35%) are safe for use in darker skin type. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and skin necrosis is the most common complication of deeper peels. Combination peels are also becoming increasingly popular. .
